Care & Maintenance
Most blinds don't need much looking after. A quick dust every few weeks, the occasional deeper clean, and knowing how to take them down properly when the time comes. That's about it. The guides below cover everything from how to remove, how to clean, and how to keep every blind type we make and fit working properly for years.
How to Remove Your Blinds
Taking blinds down is straightforward when you know what type of fixing you're dealing with. Each guide below covers the bracket types, the steps, and what to do when something doesn't want to budge.
How to Clean Your Blinds
Different fabrics and materials need different approaches. The guides below tell you exactly what to use, what to avoid, and how to get a blind genuinely clean without damaging it.
General Care Tips
A few things that apply to every blind we fit, regardless of type.
Dust before dirt bonds
A light dust with a dry cloth or duster once a fortnight stops grime working its way into fabric or building up on slats. Once dirt bonds to a surface it's harder to shift without rubbing, which causes wear. Two minutes now saves a proper clean later.
Pull cords straight, not at an angle
Pulling a cord sideways puts strain on the lock mechanism and the cord itself. Always pull straight down. It sounds minor but it's the single most common cause of premature cord failure.
Keep fabric blinds away from steam
Kitchens and bathrooms are fine for moisture-resistant and waterproof fabrics. Standard fabric blinds are not. Repeated steam exposure causes fabrics to shrink unevenly, colours to fade, and heading tape to lose its stiffness. If in doubt, ask us about the right fabric for the room before ordering.
Check child safety cleats periodically
Cord safety cleats should be fixed securely to the wall at a height children can't reach. Check that yours haven't worked loose. If a cleat has pulled away from the wall or the cord wraps around it loosely rather than locking, fix it before using the blind.
Give mechanisms a break
Motorised blinds and day & night blinds with continuous chains can wear faster if they're run up and down repeatedly in quick succession. Set your schedules sensibly and avoid letting children use them as a toy.
